Swiss textile manufacturer Schoeller was honoured with the Eco Performance Award for one of its latest knitted fabric developments at the recent Performance Days exhibition. The company received the prestigious award for its fabric containing a blend of organic merino (70 percent) and fine alpaca (30 percent), which comes undyed in its natural wool and alpaca colours.
The various colours of the jacquard are created by the animals’ natural wool colouring. This means that neither dyestuff nor chemicals are necessary for the production, and the product is recyclable and biodegradable, even in household compost, while there is also a 100 percent no mulesing guarantee.
Thanks to its knitted and felted design, the softshell felt is suitable for a wide range of applications, being windproof and water-repellent to a large extent, and at the same time, with thermoregulation properties, very warm. With Schoeller’s EXP wool treatment process the merino wool can also be treated chlorine-free, is flame retardant and offers 50+ UV protections.
Also honoured, with the Performance Award was Teijin Frontier for its award-winning 3-layer laminate – described as a ‘perfect combination of top function and sustainability.’ The mono-material made of polyester consists of recycled components and is also 100 percent recyclable. With a water column of 20,000 mm and a breathability of 30,000 g/qm/24h, the fabric is said to meet the highest performance requirements. Thanks to the textured yarn made of 100 percent recycled polyester, the upper fabric can also be produced with a melange effect.
