A garment manufacturing unit, set up at the Peddur Apparel Park in Sircilla with an investment of Rs.102 cr for catering to global markets, is scheduled to be inaugurated on April 11 by Minister for Agriculture, Handlooms and Textiles Tummala Nageswara Rao and Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu.
Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) has constructed a 1.73 lakh sq ft built-to-suit facility for the unit at an estimated cost of Rs. 62 cr. Bengaluru-based Texport Industries has invested Rs. 40 cr in the state-of-the-art machinery and set up the production unit, Sridhar Babu’s office said on Thursday.
The unit is projected to produce 70 lakh garments annually and cater exclusively to international markets, and 100% of production will be exported. The products will be supplied to globally renowned fashion brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Robert Graham, Vans and Michael Kors. It is estimated to generate Rs.300 cr revenue.
The State government has extended comprehensive infrastructure support, including industrial sheds and uninterrupted power supply, for the project.
Describing the setting of the facility as a significant boost to Telangana’s textile sector and rural employment, it said that the ministers on Thursday conducted a review meeting at the Secretariat along with Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer and senior officials from the departments concerned to oversee final preparations for the inauguration.
The project is aimed at empowering economically disadvantaged women, including beedi workers and those from the Padmashali community, by providing them with skill training in garment stitching and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Equipped with 1,000 sewing machines, the unit will operate in two shifts, providing direct employment to 1,600 women. Over the next three years, the facility is expected to create an additional 2,000 jobs. As part of the inaugural ceremony, the Ministers will distribute appointment letters to the women employees.
