Chhattisgarh has taken a significant step towards emerging as a major textile and apparel manufacturing destination with the commencement of work on the first garment manufacturing unit at the upcoming Textile Park in Nava Raipur. The project reflects Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s vision of diversifying the state’s industrial base beyond mining by promoting labour-intensive manufacturing capable of generating large-scale employment and exports. A major milestone was achieved on June 25 when Tamil Nadu-based Swift Textiles Private Limited performed the Bhoomipoojan for the Textile Park’s first garment manufacturing unit in the presence of Commerce and Industries Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan and Housing and Environment Minister OP Choudhary.
The company will invest Rs 235 crore in the project, which is expected to create employment for more than 4,600 people. The facility will manufacture kidswear and knitted garments, with export-oriented production targeting European and American markets. Spread across 81 acres, the Nava Raipur Textile Park is being developed as an integrated ecosystem for textiles, garments, technical textiles and allied industries. Modern infrastructure, including internal roads, drainage, power substations, water supply, street lighting, an administrative complex, commercial facilities, an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), a solid waste management area and a Common Facility Centre, is being created to support large-scale manufacturing. Investor confidence has continued to strengthen, with land also allotted to Puneet Creations and Drishti Designs LLP. Together with Swift Textiles, the three companies are expected to invest nearly Rs 445 crore, creating over 11,000 employment opportunities.
The project complements the Chhattisgarh Industrial Development Policy 2024-30, which identifies textiles and ready-made garments among the state’s thrust sectors. To encourage employment generation, the policy provides assistance of Rs 6,000 per month for every woman employee and Rs 5,000 per month for every male employee for five years. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the Nava Raipur Textile Park would provide a strong platform for creating large-scale employment, particularly for women and youth. He said the government was committed to providing investors with world-class infrastructure and all necessary facilities, adding that industrial expansion would accelerate economic growth, increase exports and establish Chhattisgarh as one of India’s leading textile and garment manufacturing destinations.
