Egypt’s garment exports rose by 12 per cent during January-May to reach $645 mn against $575 mn during the same period last year, the Readymade Garments Export Council (RMGEC) said in its monthly report. Exports to the US also rose by 12 per cent in the same period, recording $310 mn, against $276 mn in the corresponding period in 2017. The country’s garments exports to Europe during the period was $219 mn against $189 mn in 2017 — an increase of 16 per cent. For African countries, it was $1.253 mn against $855,000 during the same period last year, according to a report. Garment exports to Arab countries in that period dropped by 16 per cent to $30 mn, compared to $35 mn last year. The top countries interested in Egyptian garment exports are the US, Turkey, Spain, Britain, North Ireland, Germany, Italy, France, Saudi Arabia, Belgium and the Netherlands.
