Tirupur has traditionally produced knitwear and, in particular, established its name in India in the manufacture of cotton underwear. Tirupur also specializes in the low-volume mid-fashion market, particularly in the wear and supply of children and women to some of the world’s leading retailers.
Tirupur knitwear cluster has diversified its production portfolio from being manufacturers of simple knitwear for the lower end of the domestic market to a range consisting of t shirts, polo shirts, sportswear, sweat shirts, ladies’ dresses, children’s apparel, nightwear, etc. The cluster requires a significant degree of specialization in most areas including supply of machinery in addition to every area of the production operation.

Tirupur knitting industry employs more than 4 lakhs of people from neighboring districts and states, including both local and migrated labor force. In the Tirupur knitting industry the average ratio of male to female is 50 percent. Tirupur textile industry has units along the knitwear value chain starting from spinning, weaving, wet processing, printing, fabrication of garments, embroidery, compacting, calendar and exports. The Tirupur cluster comprises a total of 10000 units in different value chain.
Around 45 percent of India’s clothing is in the form of knitwear, and here the Tirupur Tamilnadu center plays a pivotal role, producing as much as 80 percent of the knitted clothing exports; in other words, around 4 percent of India’s total export trade. Looking at the ever growing competition in the world market, there is a big need for the industry to upgrade itself with the latest technological and other developments taking place worldwide. That is why for providing these technologies under one roof, Knit Show was organised recently in Tirupur.

Knit-Show’, the flagship exhibition organized by Knit Show Trade Exposition, Tirupur, has once again reinforced its position as the most comprehensive and influential trade fair in Tirupur’s knitwear industry. Held from 08th to 10th August 2025 at the Toplight Center, this edition of Knit-Show marked another milestone in its three-decade legacy. Spanning across five halls and a total display area of 1.5 lakh square feet, the event brought together over 400 exhibitors showcasing the latest in knitting, dyeing, printing, fusing, screen printing machines, digital printing, embroidery, fabrics, fashion accessories, and more. As a gateway to Tirupur’s billion-dollar knitwear hub, the exhibition attracted key players from across the textile and apparel manufacturing sector, providing a dynamic platform for networking, innovation, and business opportunities.
The prestigious Knit Show Exhibition was inaugurated with great enthusiasm and grandeur, marking a significant milestone in the textile and apparel industry. The event was presided over by Shri. K.M. Subramanian, President of the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA), and was inaugurated by Padmashri Dr. A. Sakthivel, Hon’ble Chairman of TEA and Vice Chairman of AEPC, whose visionary leadership continues to shape the future of the knitwear sector. The inauguration was graced by the presence of Shri. A.C. Eswaran, President of SIHMA, alongside several eminent industry leaders and association heads. The traditional lighting of the Kuthuvilakku ceremony was conducted in the presence of distinguished Guest of Honour, Ahill S. Rathinasamy (President-KNITCMA), T.R. Srikanth (President – TEKPA), P. Gandhirajan (President-Dyers Association of Tirupur), M.P. Muthurathinam (President-TEAMA), Ahill Mani (President TIF), N. Vivekanandhan (President SIIMKA), A. Gopalakrishnan (President-CEA), S. Kalaimani (President TIPDA), K. Nagesh (President-DACMA), N. Velusamy (Chairman, Top Light Group of companies).
The 23rd Knit-Show has surpassed all previous editions in terms of scale and popularity. With over 400+ stalls across 1.20 lakh sq. feet and more than 30,000+ visitors from key textile hubs like Tirupur, Coimbatore, Erode, Karur, Salem, and Namakkal, the response has been overwhelming. Despite the prevailing market slowdown, we witnessed tremendous interest and engagement, proving the resilience and strength of the industry,” said Mr. Krishna, Managing Director, Knit Show Trade Exposition.
