Gujarat is known as “Textile State of India” & “Manchester of the East” & “Denim Capital of India.” The State is a leader in textiles with more than 1,500 medium and large textile units. Gujarat textile industry contributes 25 per cent to the country’s manufacturing sector, 12 per cent to textile exports and has highest number of medium and large textile processing houses (over 600). Gujarat is the largest producer (33 per cent) and exporter (60 per cent) of cotton in India. Largest producer of denim (65 per cent) in the country and third largest in the world with a bn mtr capacity. It is the largest manufacturer of manmade filament fabric (38 per cent) and manmade filament fibre (31 per cent), 2nd largest manufacturer of cotton fabric, producing over 390 mn mtr per annum and manufactures 30 per cent of countries woven fabric. The State also has more than 4 mn spindle capacity.
Gujarat has various pockets that have developed as garment manufacturing hubs like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vapi and Ankleshwar being major amongst them. The city offers a wide range of cotton products in all categories be it menswear, ladies wear, or kidswear. Gujarat is catering to many leading brands in national and international markets. The Government of Gujarat promotes apparel & textile industry aggressively with good policy based incentives. It has sanctioned many apparel parks in the State to promote domestic and export sales of textiles, and garments.
The current supply and demand factors provide very conducive and favourable business and market environment for the technological investment. In such scenario, there is a big need to the textile industry here to upgrade itself with the latest technological developments taking place worldwide. That is why for providing these technologies under one roof Garment Technology Expo was organised in Ahmedabad.
The 2nd edition of GTE Ahmedabad took place from 2-4, August 2019 at Helipad Exhibition Ground, Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat. The B2B Expo provided a single point meeting ground for the garment manufacturers and technology providers to discuss, source and access new launches & latest technological development in the industry under one roof.
The show was inaugurated by Abhay Shah, President, Association of Apparel Manufacturers & Exporters of Gujarat (AAMEG) and Ashok Solanki, Vice President, The Gujarat Garment Manufacturers Association (GGMA) in the presence of members from both the associations along with exhibitors of the show.
The growth of the expo in terms of the increasing number of new quality participants from across the globe and the increase in overall size of the exhibition speaks for the fruitful & appreciable role played by GTE for the apparel technology in Western India. The show this edition witnessed around 128 exhibiting companies and brands showcasing a rich mix of technologies in apparel manufacturing, knitting and printing.
GTE has always been an integral trade platform cum showcase for these companies, when launching new technologies and equipment. This edition of GTE saw among exhibitors, renowned companies from across the textile and apparel value chain exhibiting like, HCA, IIGM, Magnum, Mehala, ALT, Ramsons, Juki, Brother, Pegasus, Tukatech, E.H. Turel, Richpeace, Zoje Sewing Machines Co. In its 2nd edition, GTE Ahmedabad was shifted to Helipad Exhibition Ground, Gandhi Nagar which had better infrastructure and all air conditioned halls. This year, we witnessed a very sizeable increase in direct participation from leading companies from all over the world. Area wise the exhibit space increased by 10 per cent with a rise in exhibitor numbers by 5 per cent,” said Ambrish Chopra, Director, Garment Technology Expo.
GTE Ahmedabad is a flagship event, which has been building partnerships between Gujarat garment making community and technology suppliers worldwide. The show provided an excellent opportunity and a wonderful platform to see latest automated apparel technologies in Gujarat itself that can make it more competitive. Earlier, to get latest updates and upgrade the manufacturing plants people used to travel to trade shows overseas or bigger cities like Delhi and Mumbai but GTE made it easier for them. To sustain and further enhance our growth it is necessary for the industry to work towards introduction of best practices, latest technology and on development of niche apparel products for the international and domestic markets. All in all, GTE established itself as a must-visit destination for buyers from the textile and apparel industry in the region. The 29th edition of GTE, witnessed 9,756 visitors walking through its gates from all over Gujarat mainly Ahmedabad, Surat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan region.
