Vietnam exported more than 50 per cent of its garments to the US out of the total exports of $17.875 bn in the first half (H1) of this year. According to an analysis of exports data, the country exported around 78 percent of its apparel to 5 countries including Japan, South Korea, China and Canada. Japan was the 2nd largest market for the country.
Vietnam’s apparel exports to the US were valued at $9.094 bn in January-June 2022 which was 50.88 percent of its total exports of $17.875 bn in the same period, according to market data from market insight tool TexPro.
The exports to Japan were at $1.635 bn (9.15 percent), South Korea at $1.556 bn (8.71 percent), China at $793.371 mn (4.44 percent) and Canada at $732.067 mn (4.10 percent) in the period under review. Germany, UK, France, Netherlands, Australia, Belgium and Switzerland were the other markets of Vietnam with exports of more than 1 percent each.
The US was the largest importer of Vietnamese apparel last year with a huge margin. Vietnam had exported apparel worth $14.284 bn in 2021 which was 45.78 percent of its total exports of $31.201 bn, as per TexPro. The exports to Japan were at $3.450 bn (11.06 percent), South Korea at $3.294 bn (10.56 percent), China at $1.734 bn (5.56 percent) and Canada at $1.199 bn (3.84 percent), in 2021.
