Rachna Shah, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, and Rajeev Saxena, Joint Secretary, met with representatives of the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) to discuss critical concerns facing the sector.
In a memorandum, TEA outlined several requests, including the establishment of an IIT in Tirupur, the adoption of Production Linked Incentive (PLI) 2.0, expansion of the Interest Equalisation Scheme (IES), and improved connectivity with the Coimbatore Metro Rail.
TEA presented its sustainable initiatives through a video, highlighting Zero Liquid Discharge, green energy generation, and programs focused on recycling, healthcare, and education.
K.M. Subramanian, President of TEA, reported a 13% increase in August’s exports of ready-made clothing and a 17.5% rise in July shipments of knitwear. He emphasized Tirupur’s ambition to reach a turnover of $11.9 billion by 2030, supported by current exports of $4.1 billion and $3.5 billion in domestic operations.
The association requested assistance in establishing a Tirupur Knitwear Pavilion for Bharat Tex 2025 and for branding Tirupur as “Green Tirupur.” Shah praised the region’s sustainability efforts and assured that the Ministry is aware of the sector’s challenges, particularly regarding the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS). A special outreach campaign is scheduled for October 25 to address these issues.
The meeting also discussed enhancing the production of garments made from man-made fibers to boost international competitiveness.
