According to TEA President, Shri. Raja. M. Shanmugham, the exporters are now facing twin issues of shortage of containers and an increase in shipping cost which has almost doubled. He pointed out that the issue has emerged at a time when the knitwear exports from Tirupur has started picking up further to opening US and EU Markets. He applauded the announcement on continuance of RoSCTL rates for garments till 31st March 2024 and said that it is a boosting factor for the growth of the industry.
This price increase is due to the impact of the pandemic, which has further led to shortage of labour, congestion at ports and quarantined cargo.
The President has written to Shri. Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways to address the issues.
The letter has also been sent to Shri. Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry to help to address the issues and to Dr. Sanjeev Ranjan IAS., Secretary, Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways and Shri Pawan Kumar Agarwal IAS., Special Secretary (Logistics).
