Organized by the Japan Sewing Machinery Manufacturers Association (JASMA), the fair is now accepting exhibitor applications for the 13th edition, to be held from 27 to 30 November, 2024 at INTEX OSAKA In line with the sewing equipment industry’s expansion into the non- apparel sector, an increase in participation from suppliers of hardware, software and services is anticipated. Accordingly, the event has been renamed to the “Japan International Apparel & Non- Apparel Manufacturing Technology Trade Show” to embody this broader scope.
As one of the world’s leading sewing equipment trade fairs, JIAM is an international platform that brings together cutting-edge technologies, products, and services from domestic and overseas manufacturers. The fair’s theme of “It all connects at JLAM- the forefront of technology and master craftsmanship,” underscores its role as a global platform for addressing issues such as soaring labor costs, labor shortages and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The previous edition in 2022 welcomed 150 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions as well as 10,452 visitors from 59 countries and regions, mainly from Bangladesh, India, Korea, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. These figures were achieved despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly reduced the number of visitors from China. The 2024 edition is therefore expecting a return to pre- pandemic levels of participation, as one of the world’s leading trade fairs for sewing equipment.
JASMA held a press conference online on September 8 to announce the start of exhibitor applications and introduce the overview of JIAM 2024 OSAKA.
Shogo Kondo, President of Yamato Sewing Machine Mfg. Co., Ltd., gave a greeting as Chairman of JIAM 2024 Executive Committee. He first read his speech manuscript and then revealed that it had been created by ChatGPT, saying that he was impressed with high quality of the text that ChatGPT instantly made responding to his request. Symbolized by ChatGPT, today’s technological advancements are remarkable, and he believes that state-of-the-art technologies and equipment, which can compete with or beat ChatGPT, will be displayed and demonstrated at JIAM 2024 Asked by the position of JIAM among leading international trade fairs, he said that Japanese manufacturers develop new products and technologies with a focus on JIAM, so that visitors to JIAM can see them ahead of other trade fairs. He expressed his intention to make JIAM 2024 worth visiting and his hope for participation of many companies and people.
Takashi Yuhara, Managing Director of JASMA, made a brief explanation about JIAM 2024 OSAKA. He emphasized the new name of the trade fair added by the word “non-apparel” against the backdrop of changing situation surrounding the industry. The theme remains the same as JIAM 2022, but JIAM 2024 is expected to further embody the meaning of “connect,” which is applied not only to products and data but also to people and things. It might be hard to develop new technologies just in two years after the previous trade fair, but JIAM 2024 is expected to show much improved and advanced software and services, he stated. As “non-apparel” is added to the trade fair name, JASMA intends to invite exhibitors from industrial materials industry, automobile industry, etc.
