Loop Industries Inc., a Montreal-based company focused on a circular economy for plastics, has announced a multiyear offtake agreement with global athletic footwear and apparel company Nike Inc. Under the agreement, Loop will supply its Twist product, which it says is virgin-quality circular polyester resin made exclusively from textile scrap.
Loop says the use of Twist will establish Nike as the anchor customer for the Infinite Loop India manufacturing facility which is being constructed in partnership with Ester Industries. Loop says the agreement further advances the implementation of its commercialization strategy and reflects Nike’s commitment to sustainable innovation.
Loop’s Twist resin, a textile-to-textile solution, will be used to reduce the usage of virgin and recycled flake polyester across Nike’s product lines.

The company says its Infinite Loop India facility is projected to deliver “significant environmental savings” compared to fossil fuel-based polyester and is expected to achieve an 81 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions as well as an annual savings of up to 418,600 tons of CO2 emissions.
Additionally, Loop says all products made with Twist will feature full traceability through its proprietary chemical tracer technology. The company says this system provides Nike with verifiable proof of textile-to-textile recycled content.
