The Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Irani, (27th April 2017) visited Netaji Apparel Park (NAP), New Tirupur and observed the activities in one of the exporting unit in NAP. Thereafter, she participated in the interaction meeting with the select exporters and Office Bearers of our Association.
Raja M Shanmugham, President said after hearing the DNA of growth of Tirupur, the Hon’ble Minister was appreciative and said “labour in Tirupur is owner” is a Manthra and a catch line and it should be popularised everywhere in the country which would attract many people from various places to come, work and set up their own units. When the Zero Liquid Discharge and the investment made by Tirupur entrepreneurs in production of power through Wind Mill and Solar was mentioned to the Hon’ble Minister, she lauded the efforts of Tirupur entrepreneur and said she would ask the environmental Ministry to setup an award and provide to the sustainable clusters which are keen in the protection of environment and production of green energy.
Shanmugham said the Minister hailed the development of Tirupur and expect that other clusters like Kanpur should also evolve like Tirupur and for this, she advised for the visit of a delegation from Tirupur exporters to Kanpur to help them to follow the similar practices prevailing in Tirupur. Hon’ble Minister has promised to take efforts for inking Trade Agreements with EU, Britain, Australia and Canada.
The requisition was made to fix GST rate at 5 per cent, lowest as the textile is the biggest job creator and fulfillment of compliance. Also requested for continuance of existing Duty Drawback and ROSL Schemes even after implementation of GST from 1st July 2017 onwards for another two years. It was also emphasised for the usage of Man Made Fibre and production of MMF garments as it is the major requirements for the growth of the industry.
Raja M Shanmugham said the Hon’ble Minister immediately accepted the requisition for organising scientific conclave annually in Tirupur by inviting all Textile Research Associations like SITRA, NITRA, BTRA, ATIRA and SASMIRA by which the findings and development of new products can be introduced to the knitwear garment sector.
