Shri. Raja. M. Shanmugham, President of TEA, has sent a representation with an appeal to the Hon’ble Prime Minister to direct Cotton Corporation of India Limited to function for the wellbeing of cotton farmers and textile industry.
Shri. Raja. M. Shanmugham said MNCs are playing a hatched game in the cotton trading against the interest of our textile industry by way of hoarding a huge stock during the cotton yielding season by using their very low cost of international fund and triggering for increasing of cotton price.
While discussing the role of Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) Shri. Raja. M. Shanmugham said CCI need to be directed to protect the interest of farmers at the first instance and should equally act as a facilitator or catalyst to accelerate the growth of value chain of textile industry and added that being a popular nation, India needs more jobs to accommodate their citizens and to ensure the livelihood of household. Which could be possible only by promoting the value chain of textile industry.
He further said CCI need to open its Supply Chain Centre based on the demand request to facilitate the speedy availability of cotton at the user end.
He also requested that CCI need to be mandated to supply cotton directly to Small, Medium and Large enterprises Textile Mills as per their capacity instead of fixing a higher benchmark to the quantities, which only benefit to either Corporates or MNCs in cotton trade.
He noted that as envisaged by the Hon’ble Prime Minister through Atmanirbhar Bharat efforts, the textile industry could easily increase our forex revenue exponentially and grow more jobs as well as facilitate the budding entrepreneurs through this trade.
Shri. Raja. M. Shanmugham mentioned that Tirupur has become a hub for Knitwear Ready Made Garment of our country by using the evolving theory “Yesterday’s Labour is Today’s Owner” which needs to be reflected elsewhere in our country by taking the above measures.
