The Nuova Accademia Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, the largest private art academy in Italy, has unveiled its first Made in NABA garment, an eco-cashmere sweater produced on campus in collaboration with Shima Seiki Italia.
Conceived by BA in Fashion Design student Marta Reparaz Lipperheide, the sweater was produced using the technologies made available by the company in the Academy’s Knitting Lab and the technical support of Filati Naturali, a brand whose mission is to focus on the research and evolution of raw materials, for the carded material made from regenerated cashmere.
The project is the result of a contest dedicated to the students of the third year of the BA in Fashion Design of both Milan and Rome campus, and of the students from the MA in Fashion Design and in Textile Design in Milan. With the coordination of Saverio Palatella, NABA lecturer and project leader, with Colomba Leddi, Fashion Design Area Leader, Luca Belotti, Course Leader of the MAs in Fashion Design and in Textile Design, Michele Corradini, BA in Fashion Design Course Leader, Sara Khalilnejad, Fashion Design Academic Assistant, and Gianluca Catalani, Fashion Laboratory Assistant, its aim was to give life to a quality product that could represent the sense of belonging to the NABA’s community and the values of its Fashion Design Area in terms of sustainable and innovative design thinking while maintaining a high sense of sophistication and uniqueness.
Marta Reparaz Lipperheide’s design, selected by a jury composed of NABA lecturers, Shima Seiki representatives, and professionals, was inspired by the most recent Ivy League style trends, characterized by bright colors and genderless fit.
The synergy between NABA’s creativity, the technological approach of Shima Seiki, and Filati Naturali sustainability, the first garment Made in NABA was created to be produced in a limited edition, donated as a gift to a selection of Alumni that share the Academy’s values, representing them through their professional path. The eco-cashmere is on display at this week’s Pitti Filati, which is taking place in Stazione Leopolda in Florence. Shima Seiki Italia’s can be found on Stand D/1.
