Various skill development programs are being implemented under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. One such project is SAMARTH. The Tiruppur Exporters’ Association had received an allocation for skill development of 8500 workers a few years back under SAMARTH scheme. For the past one year, these training programs have been actively conducted through the training centers run by the Tirupur Exporters’ Association all over Tamil Nadu. These trainings are being conducted in 115 centers. 5,510 new workers have been trained so far and have received skill development. The second phase payment for the training institutes was distributed today by Tiruppur Exporters Association. The cheques were presented at a function held at Padmashri Dr. A. Sakthivel Auditorium. This amount of Rs. 82,50,000/- was given to the Owners/Trustees of various training Institutes all over Tamil Nadu.
In this function R. Sakthivel, Chairman of Skill Development and SAMARTH Scheme Committee, Tirupur Exporters’ Association delivered the welcome address.
K.M. Subramanian, President of Tirupur Exporters’ Association explained about the merits of the Samarth project and congratulated all the beneficiaries of the Samarth project and thanked all the stakeholders who coordinated to implement the project. He also highlighted the possibilities that the project could be implemented better by receiving more allocations from the central government.
R. Gopalakrishnan, Treasurer of Tirupur Exporters Association who spoke later said that Tirupur has very safe and very good factories with hostel facilities. Good food and good salary are given here. Therefore, trained workers from anywhere in Tamil Nadu could always come to Tirupur and the manufacturers are all ready to employ them here. He made an emotional request that the Training Centers should continue the training and send the trained workers to Tirupur.
Kumar Duraiswamy, Joint Secretary informed that the Tirupur Exporters’ Association has developed an environment where various programs of the Central Government could be effectively implemented. Moreover, many such skill development programs have been developed by Padmashri Dr. A. Sakthivel who is our mentor.
Padmashri. Dr. A. Sakthivel, Honorary Chairman appreciated the activities of the Samarth program and appreciated the committee of the association and its members, the officers in the administration and the owners of the training institutes who were implementing the program all over Tamil Nadu. He promised that efforts will be made to get more allocations for the training and thereby bring more workers to the Tiruppur factories. He assured that he would talk to the Ministry of Textiles and get more allocations to the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association through different Skill Development Councils.

We are pleased to inform you that so far 8,500 workers have been allocated for skill development to TEA out of which a total of 5,510 workers have completed their training and are employed in various companies in Tamil Nadu or have become independent entrepreneurs.
