Yamato Sewing Machine Mfg. Co., Ltd. has launched “Made in Japan” new feed-off-the-arm flat seamer – FD-62SD-LF machine. Designed for stretch materials that reduces defects and achieves extra stretch, outstanding appearance, comfort & functionality.
Unique features of YAMATO FD-62SD-LF, New Feed-off-the-arm Flatseamer
Extra stretch, without the risk for breakage with the new design that securely tightens the needle thread at low tension, the seam stretchability is improved by 30% This significant reduction in needle thread half catch and seam jams ensures high-quality seams required in premium products.
Innovative New Technology for the Perfect Seam
FD-62SD-LF’s innovative technology makes it possible to create flat and wide enough seams without the risk of damaging fabric by retainer needle.
Contribute to Downtime Reduction
FD-62SD-LF helps customers improve profitability. FD- 62SD-LF is equipped with advanced technologies that reduce quality and time waste. It meets advanced sewing needs without the need for complicated adjustments and reduces the risk of seam breaks, needle holes, and oil stains.
These features of FD-62SD-LF would surely be of great help in production of highly functional and supreme quality garments, like YAMATO “Active thread control” technology, introduced to its Made in Japan interlock stitch machine that help you applicable for wide variety of sewing conditions, including ultra stretch seam, which cannot be achieved with conventional sewing machines.
The company has launched this machine on September 8 at their Head Office and introduced the features of this new product through explanation and demonstration. The FD- 62SD-LF was first showcased to the public at JIAM 2022 OSAKA before the launch, receiving great attention and evaluation.
Flatseamer is most suitable for sewing sportswear made of stretchable fabric as the stitches can stretch. Seams that make direct contact with the skin should be strong and secure, yet soft enough to avoid potential irritation. The flatseams achieve optimum comfort and performance while the wearer exercises sportswear, compared with overlock seams that are thicker because it has layers of fabric. Flatseams are made by placing two pieces of fabric side-by-side and sewing the raw edges directly together therefore there is almost no bulk.
Flatseamer, one type of interlock stitch machines, produces stitches with needle thread, looper thread, and top cover thread. The stretch and width of stitches depend on amount of thread, and feed-off-the-arm flatseamer has structural disadvantages in comparison to usual interlock stitching machines.
In order to increase the width and elasticity of stitches, retainer needles are required for usual flatseamer. The uses of retainer needles, however, are accompanied by troubles such as damage of fabric due to the needle marks. Some garment factories remove retainer needles to prevent such troubles, leading to the lack of seam width and stretchability. To secure stable stitches without retainer needles, adjustment of machines by skilled operators is necessary every time fabric to be sewn is changed. With increasing popularity of online shopping, the delivery times are shortened, which requires improved productivity at factories. The time of machine adjustment takes time and stops sewing operation. As shown by “LF” meaning “Loss Free,” FD-62SD-LF was developed to solve such challenge faced by factories. Yamato’s original mechanism has realized the creation of flat, wide, and neat seams without the risk of damaging fabric by retainer needle, regardless of materials to be sewn.
For the past few years, Yamato has focused on semi- automation and the deskilling of operator jobs. This new model is a fruit of the company’s enduring effort and is expected to solve a serious shortage of skilled operators in the apparel industry.
