Teejay Lanka, one of Sri Lanka’s largest circular knitters, has teamed up with one of the country’s oldest university’s in a partnership that will cover training, research and employment opportunities.
Teejay Lanka is a joint venture between Hong Kong’s Pacific Textiles and Sri Lanka’s Brandix Lanka.
It produces both single and double jersey fabrics on mainly Santoni, Fukuhara and Pai Lung machines. It also runs banks of the latest circular knitting technology from Mayer & Cie, Terrot and Orizio with fabrics knitted in a range of weights and gauges from 100 to 300 gsm.
The gauges used for the rib fabrics are 15, 16, 18 and 20G, for single jersey 24, 28, 32 and 36G and for Interlock 24, 28 and 40G.
The five year partnership with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ), will paves the way for collaboration in training, research, employment generation along with d greater alignment of course content with corporate sector requirements.
As part of the deal, Teejay Lanka will offer internships and training opportunities to undergraduates of the university’s Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce and will provide guest lecturers to the university on request.
It will also explore opportunities for research projects and field visits, provide feedback on the university’s course content if requested, and consider financial support for activities that improve the skills and attitudes of undergraduates.
For its part, the USJ will provide opportunities and facilities for Teejay to interview undergraduates for available opportunities, while it has also agreed to conduct training programmes for Teejay if requested, and to get involved when required, in the preparation and evaluation of business cases and special projects of Teejay Lanka.
