Exports of textiles from Pakistan surged in the first five months of current fiscal year with the knitwear sector growing by more than 36 percent. The latest statistics from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) show exports hit $7.76 bn in July-November 2021 compared to $6.04 bn in the same period last year, growth of 28.4 percent. Knitwear exports were up 36.6 percent from $1.51 bn to $2.05 bn.
Other sectors contributing to growth included cotton yarn which leapt from $304.5 mn last year to $503.8 mn during the current year, an increase of 65.5 percent.
Elsewhere cotton cloth was up 22 percent to $945.5 mn, cotton (carded or combed) by 100 percent to $1.6 mn from zero exports last year, yarn (other than cotton yarn) up 118 per cent to $23.079 mn. Exports of readymade garments saw growth of 23.3 percent to $1.4 bn.
