Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, has recently held a meeting with textile industry’s top leaders in Tirupur, Coimbatore (India). During a landmark visit by Intertek Group CEO André Lacroix to Tirupur in the first week of October, important stakeholders of the region’s textile and apparel industry came together in two high-level events in Coimbatore.
It’s worth noting here that Tirupur, 55 km far from Coimbatore, is a leading textile centre in India and one of Asia’s biggest knitwear export hubs. There are close to 10,000 garment manufacturing units here, as mentioned by Intertek, of which the majority are MSMEs. Intertek’s sprawling Softlines lab caters to the assurance, testing, inspection, and certification (ATIC) requirements of the textile belt of South India.
André, whose Tirupur visit helped highlight the textile city’s importance on the global map, met with key members of the Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) in a Round Table discussion on the Sustainability agenda. The workshop, hosted by Intertek, was designed to explore the development of Tirupur as a Sustainability Cluster for MSMEs.
Leading factories and brands like Poppys Knitwear, KM Knitwear, SNQS, Best Corporation, Esstee Exports, Techno Sport, CR Garments, Royal Classic, and Eastman Exports attended the workshop to discuss ways to strengthen their sustainability credentials and boost the adoption of digital tools and innovations within the Tirupur cluster with Intertek’s expertise and support.
General Secretary N. Thirukkumaran from TEA spoke appreciatively about the invaluable role that Intertek is playing in supporting the region’s textile industry.
“Mr. André Lacroix is an expert on the topic and sharing of his experience with a global perspective will be fruitful to Tirupur exporters,” the TEA spokesperson said. “Intertek has been doing sustainability services in their global business for more than 100 years, providing end-to-end solutions so that the exporting units will ensure quality, safety, and sustainability in their business to protect all stakeholders connected with our business.”
As per Intertek, the textile industry in Tirupur is especially open to collective efforts and knowledge-sharing, which was evident during these events.
Following the workshop, a large customer event was held for the major manufacturers, brands, and retailers from Tirupur/Coimbatore, Chennai, and Bengaluru. The event focused on the way ahead for India’s textile industry, through science-based customer excellence, sustainability leadership, and digital innovations for the future.

Sustainability is indeed the movement of our times, and the future success of the Apparel industry will be determined by how effectively it adapts to it.”
