Fulgar, a hallmark of Italian excellence and world leader in the manufacture of innovative, increasingly sustainable man-made yarns, presents the eco-friendly Q-NOVA® PURE BLACK yarn developed in line with advanced Eco Design criteria. This new speciality joins the highly successful Q-NOVA® yarn and together they have inspired the creation of a new family or yarns.
Launched by Fulgar in 2013, Q-NOVA® by FULGAR, 100 percent Made in Italy is a polyamide made using regenerated raw materials through a mechanical, non-chemical process that renders the entire production cycle more sustainable, making it possible to achieve reductions in CO2 emissions and water consumption. This virtuous yarn is further enhanced in the version given stretch performance by combining it with the LYCRA® EcoMade recycled elastomer, which has also been awarded Global Recycled Standard certification for fabrics and garments that are “friends of the environment”.
Q-NOVA® PURE BLACK by Fulgar is enriched by a black pigment melted into the core of the yarn, binding permanently to the polyamide, which is made from a mix of virgin and recycled materials. This enables the creation of black fabrics with a single-colour intensity and solidity that meet the requirements of OEKOTEX® STD CLASS I STD 100 Appendix 6 certification in full. These fabrics do not fade even after frequent washing. The association with LYCRA® BLACK origin elastomer further reduces the impact of the fabric manufacture and enables the elastomer’s glitter effect to be eliminated.
The advantages include simplification of the dyeing process and the total absence of additional black dye with a resulting reduction in water use, energy consumption and waste, as well as total safety for the final consumer. Its ability to make the company’s production processes more sustainable means that Q-NOVA® PURE BLACK has also gained numerous green certifications, including Global Recycled Standard (GRS 2015-005 certified by ICEA). Fulgar uses PEF analytical methodology to measure its environmental impact.
“The eco-sustainability of the yarns and the non-toxicity of the dyes are key drivers in consumer choice”, says Alan Garosi. “So for us it’s increasingly important to take an eco-design approach in the context of the supply chain, which can also include other companies with the aim of further promoting sustainability parameters, which must be measurable and carried out using controlled, optimised processes”.
Fulgar’s Q-NOVA® family, like Q-NOVA® PURE BLACK, has also been given an improved polymer formula to respond even more effectively to Eco-Design criteria to achieve zero waste. This new formula enables waste reduction to be maximised and all processes to be optimised, not only in the production of yarn but also the creation of fabrics and finished garments.
